On Monday, Mrs. D, our class and the extended day kids made lunch at school. We made chicken sandwiches, fruit salad, oatmeal cookies and veggies. I love cooking!

Halloween 11/10/2008

Party time!

Our annual Halloween parade and party took place on a perfect North Carolina day and our tree filled playground provided an incredible backdrop of color.   The elementary children set the rhythm with their drum and cymbal band, as the primary children circled the playground in all their finest Halloween costumes. We had fairies, super heroes, princesses, and even a hot dog girl and a french fry boy! The parade was greatly enjoyed by parents, siblings, and grandparents. Thanks to some fine parent bakers, we shared in delicious cookies and juice.   It was a great party!

A trip to the Pumpkin Patch

The primary classes enjoyed our annual field trip to Lundsford Farms recently. The children learned the important role bees play in the life of the pumpkin. We took a hay ride through the pumpkin character "forest" and got to visit with the farm animals. This year the children saw a baby pig, a litter of kittens, a calf and her mother, several goats, some sheep, a variety of chickens, and a turkey.   After a picnic snack of pumpkin muffins and apple juice, each child choose their very own pumpkin to take home. It was a wonderful and full day.   Thank you to the parents who drove and those who provided our delicious snack.

The extended day and elementary students will soon have the exciting opportunity to plan and prepare their own lunch! A parent volunteer will guide a small group of students in planning a lunch that is healthy, based on fresh organic foods that are in season, and is attentive to various diets and allergies. This group of 4-5 children will make a shopping list based on their budget and will then prepare the meal to serve to their friends and classmates. Of course, every good cook will help with clean up. Upcoming lunch dates are Nov. 10, Nov. 24, and Dec. 8.

The leaves on the trees are falling down on the playground. I like the leaves. My favorite color leaf is red.

Yoga Class
Every Friday for one hour the elementary and the extended day students do yoga at school with Ms. Maddie. We have learned ten yoga poses. I will tell you five of them; the mountain, happy baby, the tree, resting pose, and the flower. My favorite is happy baby. I will tell you how to do the five poses. The way you do the happy baby is you lay on the floor and kick your feet in the air. The way you do the mountain is you stand straight with your hands out. The way you do the tree is you stand straight with your hands stuck to your side. The way you do the resting pose is you sit on the floor with your legs crossed. And finally the way you do flower is you stand straight with one leg on your knee with your hands on your hips. After yoga I feel tired, calm and happy.
