Last weekend, the Pinewoods community sat down to a pancake breakfast at school.  We enjoyed the morning together filled with pancakes, syrup, butter, orange juice and playing outside.  After we ate, everybody went outside and cleared things for the elementary class' learning environment.  We had a great time at the pancake breakfast!

At school, we had a bake sale for the Montessori School in Haiti.  We raised so much money it was in the hundreds ($500).

On January 26th, the Elementary class went to the North Carolina Symphony.  We heard all of the families of instruments together and it sounded really good.  We also heard each instrument separately.  Most of the class' favorite family of instruments was percussion.  Our class sat beside the orchestra in a balcony. We sat right beside the tuba and the timpani and it was fun to be able to see the conductor's face instead of his back.  One of the songs that our class heard was from one of Beethoven's nine symphonies.  We also heard Tchaikovsky's music.  We learned about different time periods of music, the tempo, and musical forms.  We want to go there again, and now everyone really wants to play an instrument!

I loved the book fair because there were a lot of books I had not read. I got to pick out some books, and my Mom and Dad bought them for me."

On December 15th, 2009, the elementary class went to an assisted living home.  When all the people that are staying there were coming in, Gillian and Kyra Ginsberg played piano.  Gillian played Happy Farmer and Kyra played Christmas Day Secrets and Goodbye to Winter.  When everyone was in the room, the elementary class started singing songs: Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Let There Be Peace on Earth, a James Taylor song, and a couple of other songs.  Then we went down the halls singing We
Wish You a Merry Christmas for the people who did not get to come in the room.

On October 26, 2009, the elementary class went on a field trip to the Carolina Theater in Durham.  Slim Goodbody taught us everything we need to know about our body: how to eat, how to exercise and to drink eight glasses of water a day.  Our class was astonished by his amazing songs and body suit that had pictures of bones, muscles, and organs.  The elementary class loved this field trip and we hope to go again next year!

Graduation 06/10/2009

The extended day and elementary graduation ceremony was held on May 29 at
1:00 pm.  The students sang James Taylor's "You've Got A Friend".  Gillian,
Haylee, Abby, and Ruby called out the names of all of the graduates during
the song.  Each student received a certificate and a gift.   There were
cookies and lemonade for refreshments.  We will miss our friends who are
moving on.  The graduation ceremony was great!
