Being a Montessori certified 3-6 teacher, I can tell you a lot about Montessori. It wasn't until this year however, when my first born started in the toddler program at our school, that I could tell you how it feels to have a child in Montessori.
A year is a long time when you are only two and a half, and my son has grown and changed a lot in that time. I know that a lot of that growth has occurred because he was enrolled in a Montessori preschool.
Having had this time to gain independence and skills and to have a purpose and structure to his days has been great for both of us. My son benefited from the mixed age structure of the Montessori environment, gaining language skills and an interest in "sound lessons" from his older peers. It is amazing how many times my husband and I have asked each other "when did he learn that?" Knowing that my son can name all of his classmates and that he seems to be especially taken with one little girl makes us smile and gives us the sense that we have provided him with a great gift.
I know that my son is gaining a positive sense of self and confidence in his abilities while enjoying his new friends at Pinewoods Montessori School!
