Camp EdTech Green got started because a handful of us saw a need. We saw kids loving science, technology, making things and loving being outdoors. We wanted to bring our skills and passions together and create a learning experience for kids that would be self-directed, multi-age, collaborative and fun.
We also wanted kids and adults alike to understand that they are in charge and in control of technology. They create it. They program it. Through tinkering and coding kids learn that there is no magic behind the computer screen, just another language that they can learn. And there are cool things they can create through fun art. If they want to they can add electricity to those things and even digital commands. And finally, actually often first, we need to understand how this technology can help us improve our lives and our world. So we take it and ourselves outdoors and figure that out! And have a blast while we do it.
We know that learning and knowing happens in many ways…through art, through conversation and collaboration, and through tinkering. Camp EdTech Green merges technology and nature under a project based Makers Ed experience for kids. Our curriculum is hands-on and active. It’s all about exploring, playing and discovering.
We’ll be using mobile technologies of all kinds…iPads, Macbooks, Dell tablets, Nooks, Windows Surface Computer, Cannon Digital Cameras, Finch Robots, MakeyMakey Microprocessors…likely more by July!
What kind reactions do the kids have?
Kids are amazing! They’ll take over of course. They always do. They’ll be documenting their work through iMovies. Come back and see the finished products and prepare to be stunned. They’ll have robots created and programmed, beautiful wind chime projects created and made, computers coding puzzles complete, stop-action movies made outdoors…things you and I haven’t imagined.
Camp EdTech Green is for children by children and all about collaborative learning with children. CETG can happen on any campus, at any location. Our curriculum is set up for summer programs, after school programs, and evening and weekend workshops. We are passionate about this work and want as many to kids to experience it as possible.
What's your favorite part about CETG?
Seeing the kids take over and watching them support each other in their learning. The teamwork and collaboration that happens with CETG is pretty awesome.
