Along with other local neighborhood collections, Pinewoods helped collect 1300 lbs of food. “OCIM Food Pantry was thrilled to get such a bounty from us. Hopefully some of the pantry shelves will be filling up,” said Ms. Grebenkemper.
Up to 20% of families in Hillsborough rely on the food pantry, so donations go quickly. That motivated Ms. Rubin to expand the program beyond donations from Pinewoods families alone. “We now have a street in the Beckett’s Ridge neighborhood, where families can put food out on their porch for us to collect,” she said. “It will become a monthly service for us to perform for our community.”
