Jessie started Pinewoods in the Toddler class with around 2007. She then moved to the Primary class and stayed until the end of extended day in 2010. She participated in the After School program in 2011.
What did you like about Pinewoods?
Initially, it was the behavior of the kids in the first class I observed. They were so happy and so quiet. After that, I was most impressed with the Pinewoods family. The school staff was exceptional and the other parents welcomed us into that family. We thought about leaving after the first year because I work full time, and the primary school day ends at noon, but Jessie's teacher didn't let that happen. She found the best sitter I've ever had to help me out in the afternoons.
When did she start at public school?
In 2010, she started first grade.
What was the biggest difference you noticed in her school work and/or behavior at public?
First grade was pretty good for her. I noticed that homework was well organized and consistent. The content was repetitive to what she had already learned at Pinewoods, but I expected that. Second grade seemed to repeat the lessons of first grade in math, but the kids gained more independence. She complained a lot about the absence of her teacher and not liking the substitutes. There was no homework when the subs were there and she just appeared bored. Consistently, she didn't want to go to school.
What is the most noticeable change now that she's back at Pinewoods?
She has her passion for learning back and wants to be in school every day. I could not be more pleased with my decision.
