Primary and Kindergarten
3 - 6 years old
|
The primary program is designed to support the developmental needs and goals of children 3 - 6 years old. Children of mixed ages come together with a certified Montessori teacher and assistant in a community that fosters independence, respect and joyful, active learning.
The carefully prepared environment is designed to educate the whole child—emotional, social, cognitive, and physical. The classroom is organized into specific Montessori curriculum areas— practical life, sensorial, art, language, math, science and cultural geography—with lessons presented to individuals and small groups. Based on individualized observation, the teacher is able to guide each child based on his learning style, interest, and need. This child-centered approach to teaching is a hallmark of an authentic Montessori education. The results are children who are curious, self-confident, problem-solvers and critical thinkers. In an atmosphere that emphasizes respect, they learn to value individual difference and partnership. They become active participants in their classroom environment and community. Full day students have lunch time in the classroom, which is brought from home each day. After lunch and clean-up, the children have time for quiet rest and an afternoon work cycle. Our afternoon curriculum is focused on extensions and enrichment in all areas of the curriculum, including science, geography, practical life, sensorial, music, movement, and art. |
The Kindergarten Program
Our kindergarten program is specifically designed to meet the changing needs of children 5-6 years of age.
Five year-olds are interested in and ready to explore in greater depth advanced lessons in language, math, and the cultural subjects of science and geography. As they receive daily individualized and small group lessons, not only do their academic skills increase dramatically, but they continue to grow social skills, leadership abilities, and the confident self-esteem that can last a lifetime.
