Dear Parents, Last week we celebrated Constitution Week. It was September 17,1787 that the framers of the Constitution met in Independence Hall to sign this important document. Well, we did not meet in Independence Hall, but the third through fifth graders met in our computer lab to discuss events leading up to this important occasion. Students continue to work on drafting letters to our NC Senators requesting their views as to why the Constitution is so important to our country. Next week this same group will lead a discussion with the entire class to draft a classroom constitution. In science class, we continue to investigate parts of the plant: seeds, roots, stem, fruit, and leaves. Thank you to Matt and Emma Gunter for digging up part of their farm for our study of roots. This week we will continue to explore the Plant Kingdom. We will be spending some time out in the learning environment so students should dress accordingly. We will be getting dirty! If your child has any gardening gloves, please have them bring them to school and leave them in their lockers. The Fort Caswell beach trip is quickly approaching. The Coastal Environmental Education group who will be our host for the trip requires a special permission slip. I will be distributing the forms this week. Please sign and return the permission slips no later than October 1. What to bring: bathing suit and/or clothes that can get wet/muddy closed-toe shoes that can get wet/muddy sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat extra clothes and pair of shoes (can be flip-flops or crocs) water bottle, bug spray, and a towel trash bag for wet clothes pillow sleeping bag pajamas Calendar of Events: Thursday, September 26: Potluck dinner at Pinewoods.
